About The Practitioner

Lori Salko #MSG004547

I work at South Hills Spine and Extremity Center in Bethel Park, PA. The office is housed within Hillcrest Professional Building @ 4880 Library Rd Bethel Park, Pa 15102

I started my Massage Therapy education in 2010 at the Career Training Academy. From the very first day, I was captivated by one of the instructors. Her extensive knowledge and fervent passion for helping others through manual therapy greatly inspired me. She had acquired her advanced skills at the Pittsburgh School of Pain Management. Desiring to emulate her knowledge,  I pursued further education at the Institute of Business Careers which taught the same program my instructor learned and earned her credentials. I immediately enrolled in the advanced program after graduating from CTA.

In June 2012, I completed my education in Massage Therapy from CTA. By November 2012, after passing the State Exam, I received my license to practice Massage Therapy. Concurrently, on the cusp of my graduation from CTA, I commenced a one-year intensive diploma program at IBC, focusing on Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy as a pain management approach. Upon completion, I earned my certification as a Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist. In July 2012, I passed the Board Exam administered by the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists, achieving the status of Board Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist.

During my training in Massage Therapy at CTA, I became fascinated with the psychology of the body and the way massage therapy promotes healing not just physically, but also mentally and spiritually. My focus shifted to a whole person approach, treating the individual as a whole. The pain management program at IBC was incredibly enlightening, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have gained a deeper understanding of the body and mind's physiology, as well as the assessment and management of pain. Initially, my goal was to learn how to help specific conditions, but now my practice of massage therapy takes an integrated approach to alleviate pain, reduce stress, and foster relaxation, contributing to the overall health of the individual. Although I was trained in a specific protocol for Trigger Point Therapy, I mainly incorporate this technique into my massage sessions.

In addition to the mandatory massage therapy continuing education, I find myself deeply engrossed in scientific topics like PNI (Psychoneuroimmunology). I'm a neuro enthusiast. I love to read every book, article, and lecture related to the brain, neuroscience, and psychology. Should you have any material to share, I'd be eager to delve into it. And if you're up for a discussion on all things neuroscience, I'm all ears!

If you're in search of an LMT and interested in determining if we're a compatible match for your wellness journey, I hope your intial session will be the first of many. Understand that no two LMTs can replicate each other's touch and technique, as I am not the right fit for everyone. Remember, each individual's nervous system dictates their comfort level with pain/pressure and tactile sensation. Moreover, we are limited to what your muscle tissue will allow. Some individuals may need more time and frequent sessions to achieve the level of pressure they desire. With this in mind, I take into account the clinical aspects of your current health and the ultimate goal you aim to achieve.

If you are a health professional seeking patient referrals, I would be privileged to collaborate in their care. My expertise extends beyond self-study in body, mental, and pain-related health, with formal education at IBC on pain response. My credentials include courses in Psychoneuroimmunology for bodyworkers, Trauma-informed Care for LMTs, and a certificate for assisting veterans and their families, accredited by the Department of Defense. Should you be interested in my services, don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Should I miss your call, leave a message indicating the most convenient times for a callback.

Why did I choose to become a massage therapist?

People often inquire about my journey into Massage Therapy. Rewind to 2010, I was employed at a modest Debt Recovery firm. The economic downturn led to the layoff of many colleagues. As no one else performed my specific role, I was the last to be replaced by an intern I had trained to take over my duties. I viewed the layoff as a chance to delve deeper into lifelong interests, particularly Health and Wellness. Being naturally inclined to assist others and prioritize health, I aspired to enhance individuals' mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being, fostering improved functionality, optimism, and advocacy for wellness. Massage Therapy emerged as an ideal avenue to support people in their wellness journey.

CREATING AN OPPORTUNITY TO EVOLVE.

In addition to my interest in investigations and acting, I pursued work in these fields while studying Massage Therapy and working towards my practice license. I was employed as a Workman's Compensation Fraud Investigator and I also signed with a casting agency. Between 2010 and 2016, I caught a lot of fraud and I was cast in around 11 TV and film projects in Pittsburgh. Furthermore, I spent four years taking acting classes from a Hollywood actor and director.

TRANSFORMING INTO POSSIBILITIES!

I incorporate my investigative and compassionate nature into my practice, having left acting to the professionals to focus on what truly matters: assisting others. I am passionate about uncovering the underlying causes of someone's discomfort or pain and guiding my clients towards understanding their pain and the steps to move forward, whether it's to resolve their issues or at least manage them effectively.
